John Newton – Regional Manager
John is responsible for the smooth running of programmes throughout the North East of England, including our high profile Sport England funded project. He ensures that all Sport Works’ projects are consistently meeting the needs of both participants and funders.
Before joining Sport Works John enjoyed ten-years of success within charitable foundations of both professional Football and Rugby Union clubs. John has received several Outstanding observation reports from Ofsted Inspectors for the quality of his teaching and learning. His knowledge in this area makes John a great mentor for the development and training of our regional staff.
Away from work, John is a big sports fan and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and young daughter.
Mike Davies – Skills and Education Co-ordinator
Mike joined Sport Works in 2020, having spent the last 6 years working in education in the Middle East. He is responsible for our Skills and Education programmes in the North East of England, focusing on creating a bespoke yet flexible curriculum, enabling all young people who Sport Works engage to benefit from the programme.
Mike has experience creating and maintaining professional relationships and delivering high quality training courses allowing all staff to have access to continued professional development. Having managed similar educational programmes in the past, and as a teacher, Mike is dedicated to providing top class provision for all.
In his spare time he plays basketball, enjoys quality time with friends and family and loves to travel.
Martyn Clark – Community Sports Tutor
Martyn joined Sport Works in December 2020 following a 2-and-a-half-year spell working in a local college where he completed his PGCE in the FE sector predominately focusing upon Sport. Martyn’s role at Sport Works as a “Community Sports Tutor” will see him work across all of the Education programmes as well as community sports delivery where he will put into place key skills acquired in his teaching and coaching studies.
Martyn has a strong background in Sports Coaching where he has studied a degree in Sports Coaching & worked for several organisations delivering Sport in School and community-based sessions. Martyn’s background in Sport, specifically football coaching has seen him progress onto his UEFA B Licence & FA Youth Award. Martyn is currently Northumberland Schools Football Association County U18s Manager, assistant manager of a senior team in the Northern Alliance as well as coaching local grassroots football teams.
Outside of work, Martyn is a keen sports fan and enjoys socialising with his friends and spending time with family.
