Welcome to Sport Works’ monthly newsletter, letting you know what’s been happening in our training programmes across the North East.

What’s on?

In January we embarked on a project with the Prosper Learning Trust (Tyne and Wear), where we are utilising our ESF Pre-NEET funding in order to support Year 10 and 11 students across 2 of their sites, Mary Astell Academy and Newcastle Bridges School. Some of the students here can be hard to reach and are quite disengaged. Our highly skilled coaches are offering additional support within the schools to help learners re-engage and achieve the best possible results they can during what can be quite a busy, stressful year for these students.

Back in October 2017, Callan Robson enrolled onto our Nu Futures Study Programme. As part of this, Callan worked hard towards his English and Maths qualifications and a Nationally recognised Sport Leaders qualification, whilst also gaining some invaluable work experience.

Towards the beginning of the programme, Callan was quite timid and severely lacked confidence. He struggled to speak out loud or even work in the same room as others. Over the months Callan slowly gained confidence, he began to have a major input in classroom sessions and got to know his class-mates really well.

Upon successfully completion of his programme in July 2018, we worked closely with Callan over the Summer to ensure he remained engaged in Education and continued to develop his core skills and confidence. Callan has now achieved a huge milestone in his life and has enrolled onto a course with New College Durham where he hopes to gain more Nationally recognised qualifications which will enable him to pursue an Apprenticeship or perhaps even employment!

Callan’s progress since enrolling onto our Study Programme has been mind blowing and we really wish him all the success in the world with his studies! Well done Callan!
