Welcome to Sport Works’ monthly newsletter, letting you know what’s been happening in our training programmes across the North East.
During August our work with New College Durham has really hit the ground running. We have worked with a number of students during open days and supported with their transition into College which can be a really daunting experience, particularly for those deemed at risk of becoming NEET.
During the first week of term, we helped organise and support with a Sports games league for some of our Sports students. Our coaches done a fantastic job of helping organise the tournament over the course of the week and the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The tournament involved Volleyball, Badminton, Netball and Handball. Here are some action shots from the tournament:
Within the Developed area (Tyne and Wear/Northumberland) we have teamed up with PALS to deliver our Aspire programme to groups of learners struggling to engage in mainstream Education. The delivery will take place within the North Shields area and the aim is to develop learners’ core skills and support them back into mainstream Education.

We are very proud to announce the fact that we have now delivered the majority of our current ESF contract from Rathbone NCG within the Transitional area (County Durham). Particularly over the past few months, we have worked very hard to grow our Skills division within the North East region and this has seen us team up with some very large organisations such as New College Durham, Hermitage Academy, Northumberland College, Woodham Academy and Hope Wood Academy but to name a few.
We are very pleased to be bidding for a continuation of the ESF contract, as well as exploring other funding streams which will enable us to offer a wider range of programmes and work with a much more diverse range of students within different areas.
