Welcome to Sport Works’ monthly newsletter, letting you know what’s been happening in our training programmes across the North East.
September saw the beginning of the new academic year at New College Durham and it was time for all of the learners we had worked with over the Summer break to begin their studies. We are continuing to support those at risk of becoming NEET through in-class support and lunch time drop in sessions. During the first few weeks of term the response was excellent and the level of learner engagement thus far has been overwhelming. During their time with us, we will support learners to work towards and achieve 9 core aims including Resilience, Teamwork, Communication and Employability skills.
We have already received some fantastic feedback from the NCD Hair department, where we are supporting a number of learners during their sessions. They have rated the support received in class, punctuality/efficiency, impact on learner journey and interaction with the young people as “Excellent”. They are very keen to extend our period of in-class support for their students and we hope to continue the fantastic relationship there and minimise disengagement.
During September we continued to work with NTLP in North Tyneside (Meadow Well Connected). The sessions here run one day per week and are centred around developing core skills (i.e. Teamwork, Resilience, Communication) through various team building activities, Sport and some theory based sessions. Again, the response from learners has been great so far and the aim is for the young people to eventually re-engage in mainstream Education.
We are still looking to work with schools and organisations in the Tyne and Wear and Northumberland areas to utilise our ESF funding to support young people aged 15-24 who may be at risk of becoming NEET. We are able to offer fully funded programmes to those eligible and the programmes are bespoke to the needs of the young people. 17/18 Skills Update
The 17/18 academic year was a very challenging but rewarding one for the Sportworks Skills division. Our ESF NEET contract grew significantly in comparison to the previous year and we also won a Study Programme contract during the year. We pride ourselves on a quality delivery and have worked very hard to ensure that we have the right team in place to maintain this high standard across the board. Please take a look at some of our key stats from our ESF NEET provision since the contract began:
