Safeguarding Policy

Sport Works Safeguarding Policy

The overarching aim of the policy is to ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibility in safeguarding anyone that uses our service, themselves and all others.

Purpose

Sport Works believes that children, young people and adults at risk should be protected from abuse. We have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk and ensure their safety. Sport Works is committed to following practice that will protect them from harm and abuse.

Scope

This policy applies to all organisation’s employees, management, subcontractors, sessional workers, agency staff, volunteers and anyone working on behalf of Sport Works.

Sport Works recognise that:

All children, young people and adults at risk, regardless of age, gender race, disability, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have a right to equal protection from harm and abuse.

Some children, young people and adults at risk are additionally vulnerable because of previous experiences, level of dependency, communication needs or other issues.

Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other external agencies is essential in promoting their welfare.

When working in partnership with external agencies, it is important to ensure that safeguarding procedures are agreed to share best practice in the best interest of the individual and this will be communicated to all staff.

Procedures

1.   The organisation will value, listen to and respect all children, young people and adults at risk.

2.  A Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) will be appointed to ensure the policy and procedure is read and understood by all staff, full training is in place for all staff, the reporting and recording of all incidents and  information is accurate.

3.   We will provide effective management for all staff through supervision, support, training and quality assurance measures.

4.   All staff will be subject to necessary checks to ensure safety and welfare of others.

5.   Recording and storing of information will be done securely in line with the Data Protection Act and shared only when necessary.

6.   We will create and maintain an anti-bullying environment and ensure that all incidents are dealt with effectively.

7.   We will create and maintain a safe physical environment for children, young people, adults, staff and volunteers by applying health and safety measures in line with current law and regulatory guidance.

8.   All staff will be required to attend training and ensure they are fully aware of the safeguarding procedures.

9.   All staff will have access to incident forms and be given the appropriate guidance in completing them accurately and factually.

10.   When working with external agencies, managers must ensure that clear guidance on safeguarding practices are agreed and communicated to staff before any working takes place.

11.   All staff will ensure they are familiar with agreed safeguarding practices of external agencies.
